A college junior, Alison Gillum started dabbling in photography in 2005 by entering a few photos in the local fair. The hobby reached a higher and more serious level in 2007 by shooting high-school football with professional-grade equipment as her senior project at Del Oro High School. Today she continues taking photos of various subjects while her photos consistently win Best of Show and grace magazine covers, ads, and walls of her client's homes. Alison's photographs have been published in the Sacramento Bee, the Loomis News, Califoria Riding Magazine, Thistle's Bagpipe magazine (including three covers), North Sails ads, the Day Sailer Quarterly, Dieball Sailing ads, GPS Awning ads, Penryn Oak Stables ads, the Layline website, and a Del Oro Game Day shirt. She has her AS degree in photography at Sierra College and continues to pursue photography as a hobby while majoring in Earth Science at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
Alison has been racing sailboats for more than ten years and she races in two Thistles, Buddy (soon to return as Rebel Yell) #1010 and #1014 as well as other various dinghies. During the seven years sailing with her parents, the trio have won over half of the regattas they sailed in and finished second overall in the other regattas. Two years ago, Alison sailed in her first Thistle National Championships and came back home with two trophies; Winner of Race One and Highest Placing Boat West of the Mississippi. The Gillums finished 16th overall out of 84 boats. In 2010 Thistle Nationals, the Gillums finished 12th out of 101 boats and placed in the top 5 in 3 out of the 6 races. The Gillums have also won the Thistle Pacific Coast Championship three years in a row (2009, 2010, 2011) which has never been accomplished and Alison was an alternate crew for the 2011 US Sailing Championship of Champions. Other than crewing on Thistles, Alison has crewed on Lido 14s and Day Sailers as well as skippered Lasers. Alison is available to crew.
All proceeds go to the "Let's Get Alison Through College!" fund. Seriously.
